Great sound quality for the price I got them at, $50. A little uncomfortable until you break them in. The Sony MDRZX100 is also very good if you want something a little cheaper than these, that's still durable with reasonable sound quality.
The old design had a spiral, telephone cord style cable that could stretch out to 12 ft. This design has a rigid cable that is less than 4 ft. This is quite annoying with how my desk is set up. The headphones are a little less comfortable to wear as the padding around the speakers is firmer than the old style. The sound quality of the speakers is equivalent, very good.
There is one VERY annoying problem with these headphones (thus the low rating.) The part that connects the band to the speakers (the part that swivels) squeaks and causes a lot of noise. This noise can exceed the sound coming from the speakers. If you are sitting perfectly still, everything is fine, but if you turn your head or god forbid eat something with these on, you are at risk of causing hearing loss just from the squeaking coming from the swivel joints on both sides.
The quality of these headphones is far inferior from the product they replaced from an ergonomic standpoint. The sound is equivalent.
Pros:
The headphones offer very good sound quality. While these obviously have a strong emphasis on bass it doesn't just overwhelm the high and mid-range or vocals muddling everything up, unlike bests, giving these headphones a rich and fun sound. They also sound great with any genre I try with them, not just rap, hip-hop, and edm.
They are compact and fold up nicely which is great for traveling. It has a great design if you care about looks.
I know that these are on-ear headphones but I wish the noise-isolation was a little better. But they do a decent job blocking out most noise rather if I'm riding the metro bus or the couple of airplane flights I've taken them on.
It has a flat cable attached so don't have to worry about it get tangled up.
Cons:
The ear pads aren't designed for long periods of use, causing irritation after about a couple of hours. If your looking for a pair that you can listen to hours on end, I advised you to look elsewhere.
When you are adjusting these headphones on your head and moving the drivers, there is a little bit of creaking.
Not really a con, more of a nitpick, but I wish the cable was detachable.
Rating: 4.5/5
I read countless reviews on these bad boys before pulling the trigger.
The biggest and almost ONLY negative feedback I saw was comfort on the ears after extended use.
I don't have a large knoggin, appx. 7 3/4 football helmet, but find the comfort perfect. I've worn them hours with no issue. The one thing I can mention is if I wear my more thick framed glasses they get a little annoying after an hour. If I wear my wire frames, no issue.
As almost everyone else has stated; the sound quality you get for the buck is redonkulous!! The bass is incredible and I swear I can't hear anything around me. I listen to everything from Jimmy Buffet to Daft Punk and love the sound!
Best Sony headphones I've bought, and I've had several. No way I'd dish out the $$ Dre wants for his Beats.
